George gets fitting tribute as Stockwood turn on the style

Stockwood Park paid tribute to former player and vice president George Lovell in the perfect manner with a superb 62-3 victory over Northampton Mens Own in Midlands Three East South on Saturday.

A minute’s silence was held prior to kick off, while Lovell’s grandson, Alex, playing at scrum half, paid his own tribute with three excellent individual tries, all scored before half time.

Ben Griffin also went over, while Steve Pollock kicked two conversions as Park were 24-3 in front by the break.

The lead did not reflect the balance of play, but more the ability of Park and Lovell in particular, to take their chances.

Two yellow cards reduced Park to 13 men for eight minutes and they conceded a flurry of penalties for offside, which kept a tenacious Mens Own in contention.

The second half was a different affair though as Stockwood turned their possession into points with a succession of well-worked scores.

With lock forwards Tom Edmonds and Phil Doherty gaining a consistent supply of line-out ball, skipper Jamie Hoque and loose head prop Justin Harkin were a constant threat to the visitors in attack and defence.

James Pedder, Tom Edmonds, Tom Childs, Keiron Ryan, Hoque and Griffin all crossed the line, while Pollock managed four conversions top make the final score 62-3.
