Bedfordshire LCGA hold storming event

This year’s annual 36-hole Bedfordshire Ladies County Golf Association event took place at John O’Gaunt last Wednesday and, despite the threatened thunder and lightning, the players only encountered one small shower.

Honours in the morning went to home team of Tina Page and Rosalyn Kensall with 41 points in the four-ball better ball, beating their clubmates Yvette Bunker and Penny Fletcher by one point.

The afternoon foursomes went to Amy Strange and Joanna Coker of Caddington with 33 points on countback from Nikki Jackson and Sandra Gardner from John O’Gaunt.

The overall winners were also from John O’Gaunt - Dawn French and Carolyn Waters – 78 points saw them take home the Lanaway Pictures.

Runners-up were Barbara Tallboys and Lyn Allen from Bedfordshire with 71 points on countback from Cath Samsa and Barbara Sheldon (Dunstable Downs).

The Junior County Championship was held at Beadlow Manor on Sunday, although the start was delayed for an hour due to flooded greens.

The Championship stayed at 18 holes and proved a close-fought affair, which was decided on the last hole after all three players in the first group arrived on the 18th tee with the same gross score.

Katherine Carragher (John O’Gaunt GC) triumphed with a birdie for a gross 78, Chloe Li (Bedfordshire) shot par for second, while Sophie Hillier (John O’Gaunt), last year’s champion, scored a bogey for third.

The Handicap champion was Annabel Pitts from Beadlow with a nett 67 and the runner-up Hannah Lising-White from The Bedford with a nett 69.
