Lewton enjoys top-30 finish at Joburg Open

Season’s best for former South Beds man

Former South Beds golfer Steve Lewton enjoyed his best placing to date on the European Tour as he finished joint 27th at the Joburg Open, writes Mike Simmonds.

Played at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club in South Africa, Lewton shot a level par 71 on his first round and hit 67 on the second to move to four under.

After making the cut, he then dropped a shot by shooting 72 in round three, before an excellent final round 69 saw him climb up the leader board.

The 27-year-old was 14 shots behind eventual winner Charl Schwartzel, but still managed to pocket $11,570 for his troubles.

Lewton is next in action at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship tomorrow.
