Lewton picks up first winnings on European Tour

Ex-South Beds man finishes 65th in Africa Open

Former South Beds golfer Steve Lewton picked up his first pay cheque on the European Tour when he finished joint 65th at the Africa Open in East London, South Africa this week.

The 27-year-old started in impressive fashion, shooting 71 on the par 73 course and was just four shots off the lead. He hit a 74 in his next round to make the cut, before an even better third round followed, as Lewton shot 70 to move up the leaderboard further.

Unfortunately, Lewton then could only manage a final round of 78 to drop down the rankings, but he did earn $2,350 for his efforts and finished above the likes of Retief Goosen. South African Louis Oosthuizen eventually took the top prize of over $150,000 after winning a sudden-death final hole.

Lewton is back in action tomorrow (Thursday) when he competes in the Joburg Open.
