HOCKEY: Dagnell earns Luton a point

Luton Town ladies produced a battling performance to draw 1-1 at Bishop’s Stortford IIs in their Five Counties Women’s League Premier Division clash.

After a goalless first half, the hosts moved ahead, but Luton hit back through captain Ella Dagnell to level.

Luton IIs went down to an 8-0 home defeat to Division Three leaders Royston.

The table-toppers scored four times in each half, with the hosts’ player of the match Francesca Thorn.

Luton Town’s men lost 6-1 at Potters Bar in their East Men’s League Division Two South clash, with Graham Bright on target.

Luton IIs also suffered a heavy reverse, losing 7-2 at home to Bedford IVs in Division Four South West, Az Rashid and Sam Coombes scoring for the hosts.

In Division Seven South West, the IIIs enjoyed a 5-4 home win over St Abans VIIs.

A counter attack by the visitors saw them take the lead from a penalty stroke, while they led 2-0 at half time.

In the second period, Luton hit back in style as Alex Robinson scored a brace, with Gary Hickman, Nathan McNeil and David Pike on target.

St Albans didn’t give up, netting two more, but Luton held on.

The IVs however, lost 5-1 at leaders Hertford IIIs in the same division.

Two first half goals saw Luton trailing at the break, before youngster Will Madden halved the deficit.

Hertford produced some fluent hockey from there to ease home.
