With the hosts still joint top of the league, they knew nothing less than a win would be good enough against the division’s bottom side to keep pace with Welwyn.

That is exactly what the girls delivered too as they pressed from the start and scored twice through Rochelle Lewsey and Kaitlyn Bright to lead 2-0 at half time.

In the second period, Luton continued to push forward, although Leighton had some pressure of their own, but were kept out by a solid home defence.

The hosts withstood all that was thrown at them, and added another goal late on from Suzanne Starkey after a short corner to secure victory.

Luton now have two weeks off before they travel to Leighton Buzzard’s first team on Saturday, March 1.

The IIs were beaten 1-0 by Hertford IIIs in Division Three and their next game is also in a fortnight at Royston IIs.
