HOCKEY: Luton ladies secure comfortable win

Luton Town ladies were 2-0 winners over Broxbourne in their Five Counties Women’s League Premier Division clash.

The hosts went close early on, as the midfield worked hard and player of the match Rochelle Lewsey created some great patterns of play on the left.

Eventually the breakthrough arrived when Suzanne Starkey continued her scoring streak to net the opening goal.

After the break, Luton’s defence, marshalled by Hayley Huckle held firm, and Luton made sure of victory when Charlotte Dunham netted.

In Division Three, the IIs won 2-0 at Bishop’s Stortford thanks to goals from Kaitlyn Bright and Alex Orr.

The men’s team were beaten 2-1 at home by Wapping IIs in their East Men’s League Division Two South match.

Division Four South West saw the IIs triumph 3-1 at West Herts IVs.

Kev Stewart deflected a short corner into the net early on, but West Herts levelled midway through the half.

In the second period, it was Luton’s substitutes who ensured they triumphed, with Carter Bright finishing well from the top of the D, before Stewart sealed the points with his second.

The IIIs went down 3-2 at home to Harpenden Vs in Division Seven South West, with the IVs winning 2-1 at Southgate Adelaide IIIs thanks to goals from Will Madden and Bob Maidment

Meanwhile, the Men’s Vets beat Rickmansworth 2-0 in the Now Pensions Vets Trophy second round.
