HOCKEY: Luton Town HC stage junior tournament

Luton Town HC hosted a junior tournament at the weekend with teams from Shefford & Sandy HC, Aylesbury, Tring, Bedford, Letchworth and Leighton Buzzard taking part.

The U8s beat Leighton Buzzard and Bedford, drew with Aylesbury and then lost to Bedford, Tring plus Letchworth.

The U10s beat Bedford and Leighton Buzzard, drew with Letchworth and lost to Tring which took them to the semi-finals where they lost 2-1 to Shefford & Sandy.

Meanwhile, Luton’s U12s beat Aylesbury, but with two draws and a loss, they just missed out on a semi-final place, finishing third in the group stage.

Luton Ladies were held to a 1-1 draw at Leighton Buzzard in their Five Counties League Premier Division clash on Sunday, with the seconds losing 1-0 at home, also to Leighton Buzzard.

For the seconds, goalkeeper Helen Beattie made some good saves too, while Tasniem Ferdouse was named player of the match.

The men’s side drew 1-1 at Potters Bar in East Men’s League Division Three SW.

Luton scored with their first attack as Cameron Sarrington set up Azmat Rashid who crossed for Laurie Harmsworth to convert.

In the second period, Luton almost doubled their advantage as David Pike found Sarrington, who fired wide, while Robert Shearer and Rashid were off target too.

Late on, Anwar Yusuf was dispossessed and a fine finish ensured Bar left with a point.

The IIs won 2-1 at home to Potters Bar in Division Five SW, with the IIIs clash against Potters Bar IIIs cancelled due to a blizzard.

Luton Vagrants were 3-0 winners over St Albans VIIs.
