HOCKEY: Six of the worst for Chiltern

Chiltern HC ladies suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat at home to Blueharts in their Five Counties Women’s League Division Two clash.

Captain Lorna Ayres could not fault her team though, with keeper Katie Williams having making some amazing saves.

The defence worked hard too and, although Chiltern created plenty of attacks, it just wasn’t their day, as only Emma Cook, who is on course to be the division’s leading scorer, could find the net.

The result won’t keep the team down for long though, as Chiltern will be promoted into Division One next season if they beat bottom-of-the-league Welwyn IIs in their final game this week.

In Division Three, the IIs were beaten 1-0 at Bishop’s Stortford IVs in their final match of the season.

Some excellent passing and fine runs down the wing saw Chiltern score through Holly Steward, but it was disallowed and a penalty flick awarded.

Unfortunately, Jackie Dadd saw her effort saved and, in the second period, Stortford secured the win with the game’s only goal. Player of the match went to Kathryn Ward.

Chiltern IIIs lost a seven-goal thriller to Stevenage IVs in Division Five, going down 4-3.

The visitors fell behind early on, but Chiltern kept their heads with some excellent moves involving player of the match Charlotte Prickett, Ilona Chourlay, Loraine Cherril and Gill Sentinella.

Cherril was on target as they levelled, but Stevenage were back in front moments after the interval.

Once again, Chiltern equalised when Shonagh Broad slipped her shot past the keeper. The same player then made it 3-2 when she deflected a shot into the net, but with Stevenage needing to win to ensure promotion, they came roaring back to score two late goals.
