HOCKEY: Terrific third for youngsters

Luton Town HC U10s finished third at the Bedford Junior Hockey tournament on Sunday.

The competition was a first for Ronnie Dagnall and Olivia Sturrock, while their team-mates were Jack and Charlie Ryan, Hasnain Zaidi, Emma Halsey, Kate Starkey, Zack Grinstead plus Indiana D’Cruz.

Luton won all four of their pool matches against Leighton Buzzard, St Neots, Cambridge and Bedford as Jack Ryan netted five goals, while Halsey scored.

The team produced some fine hockey, with good passing, communication, attacking and strong defending when needed by all the players.

In the semi-finals, Luton were beaten by Bedford, but in the runners-up match, they picked up the third-placed medal after beating another Bedford side 1-0 thanks to a strike from Jack Ryan.
