JKL triumph in Denmark

After months of preparation, Luton-based fighters from the JKL Karate Dojo competed at the sixth KWF World Championship held in Denmark.

The squad faced stiff competition, especially from a strong Russian team who made their presence felt on the floor.

Lisa Taylor fought her way, often from being a point behind, to the finals of her junior Kumite division which she won to claim the gold medal. Sabrina Hammoudi also reached her respective junior final and took the silver medal.

Jamie Pepper picked up a respectable fourth in the male (14-17 years) Kumite division.

Over the weekend there was also a technical camp and grading examinations held in front of a panel of the KWF executive.

JKL founder and technical director, Sensei Fred Daniels, obtained his B Class Examiner qualification, while Sensei Mark Slattery gained D Class Examiner. Sensei Liam Mills achieved D Class Examiner and Instructor qualifications.

Sensei Daniels was also formally recognised for the success of the 2012 KWF Seminar held in Luton.

JKL chief instructor, Sabrina Daniels, said: “We are so proud that we now have more world champions in our club and they will definitely inspire our younger students to reach the same level.”

The squad are now in training for the forthcoming Open Karate Championships in Scotland on November 17.
