Lacklustre Dees fall to Old Scouts

Dunstablians produced a lacklustre in their disappointing 45-16 defeat at Northampton Old Scouts on Saturday.

The hosts scored two tries in the first half, both coming early on as Dees were unable to make the first up tackles, allowing the home team to recycle the ball quickly.

When Dees did get the ball, they were unable to complete enough phases to threaten the Old Scouts line.

Scouts conceded a number of penalties around the 22 metre line as Pete Thompson slotted over three kicks to make the interval score 12-9 to the home side.

Disappointingly, the spark never came for Dees in the second period and it was Old Scouts who were running in tries as they attacked the weak defence, offloading the ball and spinning it wide on numerous occasions.

With 15 minutes to play, Jon White found Scott Warren at pace as the centre cut through a hole in the defence, before offloading to Jordan Warner to score.

Shortly afterwards, another good backs move by Dees saw Warner find Thompson on the flank.

With defenders approaching, he cleverly chipped the ball towards the middle of the try line and another score looked likely until the Scouts scrum half made good ground to dive on the ball on the line.

The positive play was short lived though and Old Scouts piled on the points win triumph 45-16.

Dees will be looking to bounce back when they play host to Oadby Wyggestonians this weekend.
