LADIES FOOTBALL: Perfect weekend for Luton Town

Luton Town Ladies enjoyed the perfect weekend, with victories for all four of their sides.

The senior team ran out 2-0 winners over Lowestoft Ladies in their FA Women’s Premier League South East Division One home clash on Sunday.

Youngster Abbie Luby went close early on, as did Tasha Fensome, who was then denied by the visiting keeper.

Erica Byron tried her luck from distance before the woodwork prevented Shannon Pratt from opening the scoring after Zara Carroll’s corner.

A mazy run by Fensome saw Luby shoot over, as Lowestoft finally came into the game and forced Hollie Staples into a good save.

After the break, Luton took the lead on 55 minutes when Rachel Carter fired a superb left foot drive into the roof of the net.

Hatters upped the pressure with Luby and Byron linking well with Fensome.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to double their lead, as Carroll delivered a flighted free kick and Michelle Byrne rose to guide her header into the bottom corner.

Luby almost added to the tally, only to hit the post, while Bex Kane came off the bench and nearly set up Fensome for Town’s third.

Carroll’s speculative long ranger attempt saw the Lowestoft keeper back-pedal to tip over, while Staples had to be alert late on to prevent a consolation strike,

The result sees Hatters remain unbeaten as manager Nikki Baker said: “We have shown our quality after suffering multiple injuries and I am delighted with the outcome.

“It should have been a lot more than 2-0 but the goals will come.”

Luton visit MK Dons this weekend.

The Development squad won 3-2 against Comets, with goals for Jodi McClelland, Phoebe Brown and Rosie White, while the U16s beat Bury Rangers 2-1 as Chloe Fitzsimmons and Jodie Brooks netted.

The U13s won 3-1 against Biggleswade United, with Brooklyn Morgan-Lindemann, Shanice Thompson and Ellie Perkins scoring.
