Luton fend off valiant Hereford

Defence praised by Turner

AN excellent defensive display from Luton Rugby saw them earn a hard-fought 20-16 National League Three Midlands victory at bottom of the table Hereford on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

Despite the hosts’ lowly position, they have games in hand, so were by no means easy opposition for Luton.

The visitors led 20-8 at half time thanks to tries from Pepi Nanci and Andy Lake, while Joe Murphy kicked two conversions and two penalties.

After the break, Hereford pulled a try back, but Luton dug deep to secure victory.

First team manager Mark Turner said: “It was a good first half performance, but they came back at us very strongly in the second half.”
