Luton held by Shefford & Sandy in six-goal thriller

Luton Town HC’s men’s first team were held to a 3-3 draw at Shefford & Sandy in their first East League Division Three South West away game of the season at the weekend.

Luton broke the deadlock with Matt Corder’s fine penalty corner strike as they continued to dominate.

Town laid siege to the opposition’s back four, but a momentary lapse in concentration saw Shefford & Sandy equalise after several rebounds from a penalty corner.

Town kept up the pressure and a quick reply from Cameron Sarrington put Luton 2-1 ahead at the break.

A strong start to the second half allowed Corder to stretch Luton’s lead from another penalty corner.

However, newly-promoted Shefford & Sandy found another gear and Luton’s back-pedalling gave the home side the momentum to pull back a goal and set up a tense final 10 minutes.

Nerves got the better of the visitors as some unrelenting pressure resulted in a defensive error that gifted Shefford & Sandy an equaliser with only three minutes to go.
