Beaconsfield’s Paul Trendell scored a penalty on 14 minutes, to be quickly followed by two Hobbs penalties, on 18 and 28 minutes respectively, as Luton stretched their advantage to 13-3.

On 29 minutes, Tom Mahendran was sin-binned for a shoulder charge and the following 10-minute spell saw Beaconsfield capitalise on their man advantage.

Alex Mayer bagged a try on 34 minutes, with Trendell converting to put the away side back in the contest, trailing 13-10 at the break.

Luton were back in the ascendancy though as Hobbs kicked his third penalty of the afternoon on 44 minutes and Tesh Edwards scored a try on 50 minutes, showing real strength to force his way over the line after receiving a pass from Mahendran.

Hobbs’ conversion put Luton 23-10 ahead to give the hosts some breathing space.

Beaconsfield battled back however and Jack Beard scored a try on 57 minutes to finish off a well-worked passing move, Trendell converted to give the travellers hope with the deficit cut to 23-17.

A frustrating spell followed but nerves were eased when Matt Yang scored Luton’s third try on 70 minutes, powering through to settle the match and Hobbs converted to make the score 30-17.

David Lewis managed a consolation try but it was too little too late for Beaconsfield who went home with no points to show for their valiant effort.

Luton entertain Romford & Gidea Park this weekend.
