Luton teenager wins Cyclo-Cross Youth League

LUTON teenager Cameron Woolsey has won the Youth Championship in the hotly contested Elmy Cycles Eastern Cyclo-Cross League.

Woolsey, who is a member of the Cycle Club Ashwell, rode nine of the 13 races, spread across British Cycling’s Eastern Region, and, although he only won one race at Redgrave in Suffolk, he never finished below fourth in the 50-rider league for competitors aged 12 to 15.

Woolsey’s never-say-die approach was epitomised in the final round at Mistley near Colchester when he broke his chain on the first lap and had to free-wheel downhill and carrying his bike uphill to the pits, dropping to 14th place in the process.

However, having changed to his spare bike he set about retrieving the situation and finally finished third, 2.45mins behind winner and clubmate Theo Doncaster from Letchworth.
