McDonnell helps GB to a team gold

Luton AC star part of the winning side

LUTON Athletic Club’s John McDonnell picked up a stunning team gold medal at the European Cross Country Championships in Albufeiram, Portugal earlier this month, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 19-year-old ran an excellent race to finish 16th and help the U20 team to top the podium.

Along with Ryan Saunders (10th), Jonny Hay (14th), Andrew Combs (22nd), Ben Conner (23rd) and Robbie Farnham-Rose (46th), they helped Britain regain the crown they won last year.

A delighted McDonnell said: “It was a quality feeling being up on the podium. “They played the anthems too, so it was a great experience to be out there.”
