Inspire: Luton Sports Village will once again be hosting the ‘Luton Challenge’ this weekend - the longest running annual inter-club diving competition.

The high profile event is taking place from Friday to Sunday as some of the country’s best divers compete against each other over three days of thrilling competition.

Many international divers have competed at this event in years gone by including Olympic bronze medallist and British and European champion Tom Daley.

Every year it attracts international divers, members of past and current Olympic teams and the country’s top junior divers.

The star attraction will be Jack Laugher, following his two golds and a silver at last year’s Commonwealth Games. James also won gold at the 2015 FINA Diving World Series and bronze at the Kazan World Championships.

Another confirmed big name is 2012 Olympian Chris Mears who was a gold medallist at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and picked up two bronzes at the Kazan World Championships. Jamaica’s Yona Knight, who has a large local following, will also be competing this year.

Helen Barnett, Chief Executive at Active Luton, said: “We are delighted to be hosting what is going to be another fantastic weekend of top quality competition.

“Come along and watch this exciting event and see our local future diving champions fight it out for medals.

“Luton’s best young divers have been training hard for months at Inspire, and with the all-important home advantage, they have every chance of success.”
