Two Luton Academy boxers reached the quarter-finals of the National Youth Championships held at Blackbird Leys ABC in Oxford over the weekend.

Luton’s Frankie Storey took on Micheal Chalke from Repton Boxing Club.

Chalke was the 2015 Junior ABA champion and has represented England, so was the clear favourite to win the competition.

However, in front of a sell-out crowd, Storey took control of the fight from the first bell as Chalke found it difficult to defend against his opponent’s unrelenting pressure.

After a tough three rounds and a black eye, Storey was declared winner by a unanimous decision.

The youngster said: “ I was delighted with my performance, it was a tough fight and I look forward to the quarter-finals in Rotherham next weekend.”

Also representing the Academy was Tysie Gallegher who went through with a bye, meaning both boxers are competing in the quarter-finals on Friday, followed by semi-finals on Saturday and finals on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the club are holding a fight night on Saturday, February 27 at Stopsley Working Mens Club in Putteridge Road.

Tickets are £7 for junior and £15 for adults, with boxing starting at 7.30pm.
