Dedicated followers of fashion at the Queensway Hall, Dunstable

Here’s a reminder of the impressive interior of the Queensway Hall, Dunstable, opened in 1964 on the site of what is now the Asda supermarket.

This fashion show was one of the first events held at the hall.

Seated in the front row is the Mayor of Dunstable, Alderman Michael Kilby, and on the extreme right is bank manager Percy Wainwright who, as chairman of the borough council’s finance committee, was responsible for steering the town through a period of amazing growth.

Seated on the Mayor’s right are Sir Harold and Lady Zia Wernher, owners of Luton Hoo, and on the left is the familiar figure of Zena Skinner, famous as a TV chef in the days when cookery programmes were much rarer than today.
