Luton Town Ladies produced a fine performance to defeat Norwich City 2-1 in their FA Women’s Premier League South East Division One fixture on Sunday.

The hosts began well, with Rachel Kosky and Erica Byron combining for Rebecca Kane but she couldn’t convert the chance.

Rachel Carter’s header was cleared off the line, while Lydia Radley was making her first start since breaking her arm last year.

The Canaries then missed a glorious opportunity from close range, but took the lead when a tame shot bobbled over keeper Hollie Staples’ hands and into the net.

In the second period, Luton came out strongly as Kane went on driving run before being upended in the box, with Zara Carroll smashing the spotkick home.

Great play by Michelle Byrne put Kane in again but she was unable to hit the target, while Erica Byron couldn’t test the keeper either.

Staples made two excellent saves to keep her side alive, with Hilary Ferroni defending well too.

With seven minutes to go, the Hatters had their winner when Rachel Kosky’s set-piece was superbly volleyed in by Kane.

The goalscorer almost had a third only to be denied by the fingertips of the Canaries goalkeeper.

Manager Nikki Baker said: “I am delighted to get back to winning ways after picking up only one point in the past two games.”

Hatters travel to C&K Basildon this weekend.
