What made the result even harder to swallow was the fact that Luton threw away a two-goal advantage, supplied by Rachel Shadbolt and then Suzanne Starkey.

They collapsed in the second half when they conceded several short corners, which led to the home side surging into a 3-2 lead.

At least Luton recovered to salvage a point when Stevenage gave away a short corner and player-of-the-match Starkey scored an amazing last-minute equaliser.

In Division Five of the league, Luton Town Ladies 2nd continued their poor form in January with a 5-1 defeat at home to West Hertfordshire 5.

Player-of-the-match Justine Orange, making a welcome return to hockey, tried her best to inspire the side, while Kimarla Johnson scored a fine goal. But the main difference between the sides was West Herts’s superior finishing.
