Luton Taekwondo students shine on the world stage in Canada

Two dedicated Taekwondo students from Luton, Nazma Rahman and Jahopia Tannis, proudly represented their club and country at the Taekwondo World Cup held in Lethbridge, Canada earlier this month.

Competing against some of the finest martial artists from across the globe, both athletes, who attend Luton & Dunstable TAGB Taekwondo Club, delivered outstanding performances and returned home with an impressive collection of medals. Rahman demonstrated exceptional skill, determination and resilience throughout the competition, earning a bronze medal in the Ladies Executive Black Belt Sparring category, only being beaten by the overall winner. Her achievement is a testament to her hard work, commitment and years of dedicated training.

Tannis also enjoyed a remarkable tournament, securing four gold medals in Black Belt Pattern, Black Belt Point Stop Sparring, Black Belt Continuous Sparring and Team Patterns. Her outstanding success also saw her finish as the highest-ranked competitor on the overall medal table, an incredible accomplishment at such a prestigious international event.

Both competitors represented Luton with distinction and showcased the high standards of Taekwondo training within the club. Their achievements reflect not only their personal dedication but also the support and guidance provided by their instructor, World Master Miles Lutwyche. Speaking after the event, he said: "I am incredibly proud of Nazma and Jahopia.

"To compete on the world stage against athletes from around the world is a tremendous achievement in itself, but to return home with such outstanding results is truly exceptional. Their dedication, discipline and determination have been rewarded, and they are an inspiration to all our students.”

The success of Rahman and Tannis at the World Cup is a proud moment for Luton and a fitting reward for the countless hours of training and preparation invested in reaching the highest levels of international competition. Their achievements continue to demonstrate that local talent can compete and excel on the world stage.
