SQUASH: Seconds lose four-game winning run

The latest round of Beds League matches saw LDS firsts away to top of the table MK Squash, whilst the seconds hosted Open University.

Scot Adam kicked things off at second string against Nick Cartwright of MK Squash and despite winning the first two, eventually went down 3-2.

Matt Carey took on Chris Plummer in a close affair as although he won the third game, couldn’t prevent a 3-1 defeat.

At fourth string, Terry Higgs struggled against MK’s Barry Smith, losing 3-0, while John Blackwell was involved in an epic encounter with Jake Smith.

The five-setter contained numerous lengthy rallies, but Blackwell had enough in reserve to record victory for LDSC.

Craig Basham was named at first string to face Matthew Ysart, who secured a comfortable 3-0 triumph.

Having won their past four matches, the development side entertained Open University in good spirits.

George Allen lost an enthralling encounter with Dave Gibson 3-2, blitzing his opponent in the second game 14-1.

Things got worse for LDSC as Alex Taylor lost in three straight games to Terry Saunders at number four string.

This put the pressure on Sam McCoy, 16, and Sean Davies, 17, to win their matches.

Although McCoy lost his first game against Ian Davey, the LDSC teenager hit back to pick up a 3-1 success.

Davies also tasted defeat in his first game to Laurie Collick and despite trying his best to mount a fight back, was eventually beaten 3-0.

In the dead rubber at first string, Steve Davies ensured the end result was a little closer and perhaps a fairer reflection of the match, beating Ben Shakespeare 3-0.
