Although comfortably beating their opponents at home, the London Road side knew St Ives were a different team on home soil.

The first 15 minutes of the match was as expected, with both sides battling hard and the hosts scoring the game’s first try.

They upped the pressure, but silky hands saw Stockwood play out from their try-line and get the ball to winger Carl Bergoin who ran the length of the pitch to touch down in the corner.

St Ives restarted and sloppy play from Park lost the ball in contact, with the hosts immediately returning a score which was then converted.

Stockwood were level by the end of the first half as Bergoin grabbed his second try, with Steven Pollock adding the extras to make it 12-12.

In the second period, Park still had it all to do, but the Luton side’s fitness, determination and skill was too much as scores came thick and fast in the last 25 minutes.

A signature 15-man maul put Ben Griffin over the line, while Bergoin secured his hat-trick and Trevor Fowler showed blistering pace to score in the corner.

James Hankey touched down too, while Pollock added another two tries and converted four difficult kicks despite the blustery conditions.

James Tate was named man of the match for his superb work-rate, while this weekend, Park play the league champions Biggleswade in the Bedforshire Cup final.
