Park pay the price in loss to Welwyn

Despite starting and finishing well, Stockwood Park paid the price for a poor spell either side of half time as they lost 50-13 at Welwyn in London Two North West on Saturday.

Although conceding early, Park were into their stride and had much the better territory and possession.

They notched a fine try when skipper Jamie Hoque fed hooker Tom Childs who crashed through three defenders for the score.

Park got further reward for their pressure with a penalty from James Hankey, but poor defence then let the visitors down and they struggled to cope with the pace of the Welwyn backs, turning round 36-8 behind.

Park’s troubles continued after the break when they conceded an early try.

However, when Phil Doherty and Will Varnals gained control of the lineout they rallied and again began to apply some pressure.

This was rewarded when the speedy Kyran Ryan followed up an astute chip ahead by scrum half Alex Lovell to record their second try.

Park continued to press until the end but failed to add any further points to their tally.

This weekend, Stockwood are at home to second placed side HAC.
