Richardson leaps to silver at English Schools Champs

Luton AC’s Eavion Richardson won a fantastic silver in the Inter Girls long jump at the English Schools Championships in Birmingham at the weekend, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 15-year-old leapt a massive PB of 5.85m, improving on her previous best by almost 40cm to finish just behind winner Simi Fajemisin from Oxfordshire.

Meanwhile, there were some other fine results for the Luton competitors in action as Jamal Lewis reached the final of the Intermediate boys 800m event, timing a personal best of 1.54.80mins to finish sixth.

Gerald Matthew clocked a PB of 22.38secs on his way to the final of the Intermediate boys 200m, where he finished sixth in 22.74secs.

In the Intermediate 300m, Lewis Sweeney, representing Herts, timed a PB of 36.98secs in his heat and then 37.00secs to just miss out on the final.

Jamie Potton-Burrell threw 53.85m, equalling his PB, to finish eighth in the Senior boys hammer final, while Sam Bird jumped a PB of 1.96m as he came fourth in the high jump final.

In the 800m Senior girls, Sophie Billington reached the final where she clocked 2.09.86mins to finish fourth.

In the Senior girls high jump, Cherelle Hibbert managed to equal her PB of 1.66m as she came eighth.

Unfortunately, Dereece O’Callaghan didn’t finish his heat of the Senior boys 400m, as he pulled his hamstring.
