Dunstablians IIs eased to a 64-7 friendly victory over Bedford Queens at Bidwell Hill on Saturday.

After a cagey chess-like opening, the hosts took control from the set-pieces and, on 15 minutes, Dees’ forwards visibly escalated the pressure on Queens and spun the ball wide to Jordan Warner who outpaced the defence to score under the posts.

Immediately after the restart Dees were on the attack again and five minutes later the ball was spun wide for Warner to again show his pace and agility to score close to the posts.

Try number three came when Neil Davis successfully fielded a kick into Dees territory and he broke numerous tackles as he counter-attacked, with the ball once again spun wide to Mattie Anderson, whose electric pace down the right took him to within a few metres of Queens’ line.

The last defender just managed to bring the speedster down, but he off-loaded to Stuart Hall to walk-in under the posts.

With Dees dominating Joe Murphy broke on the outside to cross whitewash after half and hour, but a momentary lapse from the restart allowed the visitors to score their only try of the day.

Murphy then added a second carbon copy try to his first as the host led 31-7 at the interval.

Dees made a number of changes at the break as replacement and budding star Jack Bramston staked his claim to a first team place by scoring a try, after a series of phases on Queens’ line.

A few minutes later and Craig Pirotta used his size and strength to barge over for another try.

Halfway through the second period Hall galloped over for his second try to bring up the half-century on the continually revolving scoreboard.

With less than 10 minutes to go newcomer and man-of-the match contender Duane Hughes-Brand touched down following a bullocking run.

And with the final play of the game Bramston grabbed his second try as he pushed his claim for a regular squad place.

This weekend the first visit Olney, the seconds are away at Kettering, while the thirds host Olney IIIs.
