“I’m extremely proud of the team,” said captain, Jamie Hoque. “We put in a solid performance for the majority of the match.

“At 60 minutes the game could have gone either way, but we showed great resilience and control to hold on and secure a win with maximum points.”

Park went ahead early in the game through a Jason Carr penalty before James Hankey burst through the Daventry defence to touch down from close range.

Carr and David Keating added another two tries before half time and Daventry got their first score, making it 22-7 at the interval.

Daventry came out firing in the second half, running in three unanswered tries to pull the scores level at 22-22 and test the nerves of the large Ladies’ Day crowd.

But Hankey edged Park back in front with a penalty before Keating confirmed the win when he scored after a pacy run down the left wing.

Daventry pushed to get back into the game, but mature game management from Stockwood starved them of possession while they ran down the clock.

Stockwood Park play Deepings in their next league game on Saturday, October 5.
