Shanice helps Beds to second place

LUTON youngster Shanice Marshall-Sefia took part in the AEGON U12 County Cup event for Bedfordshire last week.

The 12-year-old was part of the side containing Emma Brown, Alex Hildreth and Olivia Elliott, who finished second behind Cambridgeshire.

She also took part in the AEGON Team Tennis Premier U12 and U14 girls competitions, picking up 185 ranking points in the U12 tournament.

Meanwhile, Marshall-Sefia also competed in an U12 grade one clay tournament at Queenswood Tennis Club for the first time, where she lost to second seed Maria Budin and semi-finalist 6-4, 6-0.

She then went into the consolation draw and beat Destinee Martins 0-4, 4-0 (10-4) and Lauren King-Sparke 6-2, 6-4 to reach the semi-final, where she lost to top seed and eventual winner Emily Appleton 7-6, 6-2.

Marshall-Sefia was also in the Dollamore Junior Open U12 event, reaching the final after beating Emily Morton 6-2, 6-2, Amy Basford 6-1, 6-2 and Kate Eastall 4-6, 6-0, 6-4, before losing to Vaishali Jorge 6-0, 6-4.

The results have seen the youngster now ranked number one in Bedfordshire for both U12 and U14 age-groups and she is next in action at Grade Two events in Solihull and Bournemouth later this month.
