Shanice serves her way to second place

Luton tennis youngster Shanice Marshall-Sefia finished as runner up in both the U14s single and doubles events at the Sutton Tennis Academy Easter Grade 2 tournament this month.

In the singles, she beat Frances Evans 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 in the first round, before easing past Gemma Poland 6-1, 6-4 and Martina Paladini Jennings 6-4, 1-0 (retired) to make the semi-final.

Hannah Davies was then defeated 6-3, 6-4 but Marshall-Sefia eventually lost 6-0, 6-1 to Jodie Anne Lawrence-Taylor in the final.

She then partnered Daphne Pratt in the doubles and after a first round bye, they beat Jojo Bach and Sonay Kartal 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 plus Kristina Georgieva and Danielle Latter 6-4, 7-6 to make the final.

There they were edged out 6-2, 6-3 by Hannah Davies and Lauren Armstrong.

It’s been a good month for the youngster as she reached the quarter-finals of the U16 event to earn 300 ranking points and was also a runner up in the U16 doubles event too.

Meanwhile, Marshall-Sefia was second in the Gosling IHPC Easter Junior Open and came fourth in the U16 event as well.

She is now ranked first in the county at U14 and U16 level, plus sixth for the U18s and 11th nationally for U14s, plus 27th in the U16s.
