The first match on court was between the third strings as Terry Higgs and Phil Jenkins faced off.

Jenkins, a former LDSC player, always appeared in control of the match as he sealed a 3-0 victory with room to spare.

At fourth string, Stephen Axford took on the host’s Steve Morgan as he soon fell 2-0 behind.

Axford then upped his game to claim the third on a tie-break but this proved to be a false dawn as Morgan found another gear to take the fourth for victory.

The second string match saw Luton’s John Blackwell play Neil Morgan, with the opening two games shared.

However, Morgan edged a close third game before securing the match, and the overall tie, in the fourth.

The fifth string match saw the only success by an LDSC player as young Alex Axford faced Letchworth’s Martin Miller, claiming a 3-1 victory on his debut for the first team.

The final match saw LDSC’s Craig Basham play at first string against Tom Lo, losing the first two games quickly before making a fist of the third, only to be defeated 3-0.

Letchworth 18 LDSC 5: Tom Lo 3 Craig Basham 0; Neil Morgan 3 John Blackwell 1; Phil Jenkins 3 Terry Higgs 0; Steve Morgan 3 Stephen Axford 1; Martin Miller 1 Alex Axford.
