Squash: LDSC Juniors excel at Radlett

Luton & Dunstable Squash Club’s Juniors took centre stage as seven competed at the Radlett Graded competition with two triumphing in their sections.

Dilan Sheemar marked his debut in the U11 section with a third place finish in the top grade.

In the second grade, Lily Main maintained her recent good form by beating fellow LDSC member Sophia John in the semi-final for a first victory for several months, before comprehensively beating a local boy in the final.

Three of the four older youngsters in the second session were making their competitive debuts.

Nursing a shoulder injury, Thomas Allwright slumped to a series of defeats, the final one to fellow debutant Rahul Sheemar who showed some great touches as he finished seventh.

Ross McKenzie outperformed expectations by beating local player Damenic Young, while Sean Davies, in his second competition, performed brilliantly to beat Aran Kotecha from Radlett in the final.

Meanwhile, seven-year-old starlet Natalie Main was called up to train with the U11 regional squad.

Club coach Steve Davies added: “It’s been brilliant to see the growth in junior squash in the last few months and the increased appetite as we have gained that critical mass of players who will all push each other to up their game.

“The future of squash in the club and the wider county is looking very good indeed.”
