SQUASH: LDSC seconds steal the show

Luton & Dunstable Squash Club’s second team stole the show this week by recording a tremendous 12-8 win at Biggleswade to lift them to the heady heights of second in the Bedfordshire League, while the depleted firsts went down against champions David Lloyd.

Sam McCoy, 14, kicked off proceedings for LDSC IIs against veteran Biggleswade captain Martin Wright.

Wright had no answer to McCoy’s speed and agility and had barely warmed up before the match was over, while Paul Main battled hard against Marcus Gray before succumbing 3-0.

Next up were the first strings as county champion Steve Davies despatched the hosts’ Dan Easton 3-0 without too much effort.

At fifth string Amy Rigby started well against Biggleswade’s Alex Boswell and should have at least taken the first game, however, Boswell’s experience showed as he ultimately prevailed 3-0.

The entire tie was then decided in the final match as LDSC captain Steve Wells took on Richard Anthony in what transpired to be the closest game of the evening.

Wells raced into an early lead before being pegged back by Anthony and appropriately the match went to a deciding fifth where Wells held his nerve to deliver a well-deserved victory.

The firsts were always up against it as they travelled to league leaders David Lloyd, especially with only four players.
