They brushed aside nearest challengers Harpenden A without dropping a game, before also beating the same team’s second string at Harpenden Squash Club.

Number one string Sophia John didn’t have it all her own way against Euan Turner after cruising to an early lead as in the second, she had to fight her way back from 8-3 down to save a game ball before getting over the line in a tie-break.

That seemed to impact adversely on Turner as he lost the third comprehensively.

LDSC’s Dilan Sheemar wasted no time in dispensing with Patrick Locker at string two as while there were some good rallies Sheemar never really looked in trouble.

String three saw Natalie Main beat Adam Farnham as after a close second game, she eased home in the third.

In the second match, John took a little time to get going as she found herself 5-0 down in the first to Harpenden B’s Oscar Cuthbert.

John then rattled off 11 unanswered points to win it and was rarely troubled thereafter.

Sheemar carried on where he left off against the hosts’ Ruben Mahendra, running out a comfortable 3-0 winner, before Lily Main, replacing her younger sister at third string had the most competitive match of the day against Farnham.

Main eventually triumphed against a tiring Farnham, but not before losing the second 14-12 in a tie break.

Team manager Paul Main said afterwards: “With Sophia and Dilan moving up to U13 level next season and Lily Main not far behind it could be some time before LDSC fields an U11 side in the league, so it’s great to bow out with a title win.

“We may not have a large pool of talent, but our puddle is high quality and can provide the basis of a good side for years to come.”
