John has been playing squash for three years and has shown spectacular improvement in recent months, plus real dedication to improve, perhaps typified by her using her summer holidays to travel to Cornwall and Jersey to compete in tournaments.

The month started off with a trip to the first Mega Series event in Ipswich where, after an easy first round she beat her fellow club mate Lily Main in a hard fought semi-final before losing to unknown and unseeded Aliza Sheikh.

Sheikh, with a tennis background, had knocked out John’s club fellow club mate, Natalie Main in the other semi-final.

However, at the Eastern Regional Championships in Cambridge, John turned the tables showing astonishing grit and determination to triumph 3-1over Sheikh, winning the third in a tie-break and the fourth in another lung bursting tie-break 15-13.

John was then able to carry on that winning form to triumph once again over Sheikh in the final of the Middlesex Open.
