SWIMMING: Hive of activity for Dunstable

Dunstable Leisure Centre was a hive of excitement as Dunstable SC hosted the Bee Allen Cup.

The gala had been organised by DSC as a commemorative gala to the late Bee Allen who was herself an excellent swimming coach teaching many children in the area to swim.

There were some good visiting clubs in attendance too, as Buckingham Swans, Flitwick Dolphins, Leighton Buzzard and Henley all taking part against two teams from Dunstable SC.

After the first 20 events of team and individual races, Leighton Buzzard led the way on 97 points, with Dunstable Blues on 80 points and Dunstable Whites on 52.

After event 30, that gap was down to four points, with Flitwick Dolphins hot on their heels. They then went on to overtake the leaders, and held on to eventually claim victory by a mere four points.

Dunstable Blues came third after picking up nine victories and nine second places, with the Whites in fourth as they managed three first places and eight seconds.

They also achieved some excellent new PBs, with the boys earning 19 and the girls an impressive 12.

Harry Constantine set two new clubs records in the boys 13 years age group as he clocked 1.05.47mins in the 100m butterfly and 1.06.87mins in the 4x25m individual medley.

The award to the winning club Flitwick Dolphins, was presented by Bee Allen’s daughter Chrissie Alderman who is herself a coach for DSC.
