SWIMMING: Palmer in fine form at trials

Putteridge SC’s Lawrence Palmer performed superbly at the British Championships Commonwealth trials last weekend in Glasgow, making it to the semi-finals.

The 21-year-old qualified for the 50m and 100m breaststroke, as he was up against swimmers who have competed at the Olympics.

He went in the 100m breaststroke as his first event, where he had qualified 28th fastest in a time of 1.04.33mins.

He managed a superb race to clock 1.03.59mins, finish 18th overall and was second reserve for the semi-final, with the likes of Michael Jamieson and Andrew Willis timing 1.02.36mins and 1.02.46mins respectively.

In the 50m breaststroke, which is Palmer’s favoured event, as he was ranked 20th going into the it, he stormed into the semi-finals with another PB of 28.54secs, qualifying 11th fastest.

With the meet televised live on Sky, there was a superb atmosphere for the semi-final as Palmer finished 13th in a time of 28.62secs.
