With some of Dunstable’s young swimmers on their debuts for the club, there were plenty of nerves around, but despite that, the squad swam with determination and vigour, winning the first round meet comfortably,

DSC were up against Linslade Crusaders, Borough of Hounslow, Aylesbury and City of Milton Keynes, as they emerged victorious from four medley and freestyle relays in quick succession.

In the individual swims, DSC held their own well and many swimmers gained new club PBs, as at the half-way stage, scores were tight, with City of Milton Keynes on 118pts and DSC just two behind.

With the most exciting races still to come including the cannon 8x1L freestyle relay, Dunstable were looking in great shape to take the win showing 18 first places and eight second places with no disqualifications.

In the final set of relays, DSC really came to the fore, winning five of them overall, including the cannon, as they finished five points ahead of their nearest rivals from Milton Keynes.

DSC’s swimmers of the gala went to Louis Ellison and Lucy Buckingham who both performed astonishing swims on their first galas, while the next round takes place on Saturday, July 2.

Result: 1, Dunstable, 223pts; 2, City of Milton Keynes, 218; 3, Aylesbury, 190; 4, Linslade Crusaders, 176; 5, Borough of Hounslow, 102.
