Swimming: Team Luton excel at Hatfield

Team Luton swimmers had some fabulous results at the Hatfield Swimming Club Winter Gala.

The club had 29 swimmers taking part as they amassed 31 medals, 72 personal bests, nine county qualifying times and four regional qualifying times.

In the nine-year-old age group, Maisie Hamilton won gold in the 50m breaststroke, 200m freestyle and 200m Individual Medley (IM), silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 50m freestyle and backstroke.

Having never swum the 200m IM in a gala before, she then clocked 3.24.11mins, some 17 seconds inside the 2014 county qualifying time.

Menna Walmsley swam 45.16secs in the 50m freestyle for a PB, while Rhys Davidson, nine, managed PBs in all his events, with gold in the 50m backstroke and 200m IM.

He also had never swum the 200m IM in a gala before, but won in 3.25.46mins and qualified for the County Championships.

Davidson then took bronze medals in the 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly along with a second county qualifying time in the 50m butterfly.

Twins Ciaran and Kyle Moriarty competed in the 50m freestyle and backstroke, where they achieved PBs in the latter.

Meghan Davis, 10, took silver in the 200m freestyle with a PB of 2.48.42mins and claimed bronze in the 50m backstroke, plus the 100m breaststroke, where she also earned a PB.

In the 11-year-old category, Milly Davidson swam PBs in the 200m IM, 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly in a time of 1.36.70mins.

Shannay Davis achieved a time of 3.12.02mins in the 200m IM to break her best by 10secs and claimed another PB in the 50m butterfly with 44.80secs.

Daniel Flemons claimed gold in the 50m breaststroke, silver in the 50m freestyle and backstroke, plus the 200m freestyle in a PB of 2.27.45mins.

He also claimed bronze and swam personal bests in the 50m butterfly and 200m IM.

Alfred Mureithi achieved an awesome 25-second personal best in the 200m IM in 3.21.85mins, a county qualifying time.

He clocked PBs in the 50m backstroke, freestyle and butterfly and 200m freestyle, where he claimed his second county qualifying time.

Natasha Bailey, 12, swam a PB in the 200m freestyle with 2.53.81mins, while Celyn Walmsley claimed a PB of 3.17.54mins in the 200m IM.

James Mackerness excelled with PBs in all his events, the 100m backstroke and freestyle and 200m IM.

Nathan Swift won gold in the 200m freestyle in 2.16.39mins, while winning four silvers and clocking PBs in the 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke. He also qualified for the Regional Championships in the 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.

Jordan Goode, 13, swam the 200m IM in a PB of 2.59.4mins to book his place at the County Championships, along with the 200m freestyle event, while earning PBs in the 100m butterfly and breaststroke.

Jack Ryan, 13, also achieved PBs in all his events, the 100m freestyle and backstroke, plus the 200m freestyle and 200m IM in 2.35.34mins.

He also won bronze in the 200m freestyle, 200m IM, plus the 100m backstroke.

In the 14-year-old age group, Yasmin Pelling earned PBs in the 200m IM (3.26.45mins), 100m and 200m freestyle.

Georgina Sable claimed gold in the 100m butterfly in 1.34.53mins and also competed in the 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle.

Connor Sable competed in four races, three of which he had never swam competitively before in, and gained PBs in the 200m IM (3.14.04mins), 100m breaststroke (1.42.22mins), 50m butterfly (42.46secs) and 200m freestyle (2.58.67mins).

Josh Hodgman swam PBs in all his events, the 50m backstroke (35.90secs) and 50m freestyle (30.27secs), which was a county qualifying time.

He also managed PBs in the 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly too.

Steven Russell won bronze and swam a PB of 1.11.53mins in the 100m butterfly to qualify for the County Championships.

He also clocked PBs in the 200m freestyle, 200m IM, 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke.

Jamie Wright, 15, managed PBs in the 50m (29.85secs) and 100m freestyle (1.05.56mins), with the latter a county qualifying time.

Matthew Wright, 15, also claimed PBs in the 50m (27.64secs) and 100m freestyle (1.00.10mins).

In the 16O category, Beth Currant, 16, won silver in the 50m freestyle in 28.74secs and managed 1.01.13mins in the 100m freestyle.

Amy Pelling, 16, competed in the 100m and 200m freestyle, while Jamie Fowler, 16, went in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle plus the 100m backstroke and 200m IM.

Alex Mason, 17, swam a PB of 27.36secs in the 50m freestyle, while William Mallcott, 17, claimed gold in the 100m butterfly with a PB of 57.61secs.

Mallcott also swam PBs in all his other events and achieved regional qualifying times in the 100m and 200m freestyle, while Emma Hobbins, 18, timed 1.11.08mins in the 100m backstroke.
