Malcolm Barton shattered the 60-64 age group county records that had stood since 2006 in two of the toughest swimming events, the 400m individual medley and 200 metres butterfly.

He beat the previous records by 44 and 24 seconds respectively, collecting silver medals in the process.

Malcolm’s stamina also helped him to finish strongly for a bronze in the 200m breaststroke. His time would have been a further new county record - however his team-mate Colin Mayes swam two seconds faster to finish second.

Colin also won three silver medals over 50m and 100m breaststroke and the 100m individual medley, in addition to three bronze medals over 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle.

John O’Rourke, Team Luton’s youngest swimmer at the meet, swam his way to a gold medal in the 45-49 age group 200m freestyle. He also collected two silvers in the 100m and 200m backstroke.

Competing at the top of the 50-54 age group, Dave Wright won a gold medal in the 200m freestyle.
