SWIMMING: Whyte-hot showing for Team Luton

Team Luton swimmers enjoyed some fabulous results at the Hatfield Swimming Club 2014 Winter Gala recently amassing medals, personal bests and 2015 county and regional qualifying times.

Up-and-coming nine-year-olds Sophie Ledger and Nyles Whyte both had a great gala with Ledger winning bronze in the 50m freestyle and silver in the 200m freestyle, while also swimming five personal bests.

Whyte took gold in the 50m breaststroke in 50.72secs, silver in the 200m IM, beating his best by a massive 25 seconds, along with second in the 50m butterfly.

In the 10-year-old age group, Kirsten Bashford swum bests in the 100m butterfly and 50m breaststroke, while Jennifer Brooks (10) did likewise in the the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

Autumn Fisher (10) competed for the first time competitively in the 100m backstroke and added a PB in the 50m freestyle, while Laila Gilbert (10) had bests in the 200m IM and 100m breaststroke.

Malachi Gilbert (10) went in the 100m breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle and backstroke, while Maisie Hamilton (10) swum the 200m IM, 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke.

Ismail Savage was another 10-year-old swimming competitively for the first time in the 100m freestyle and backstroke.

Chiara Rogers (10) claimed golds in the 200m IM, 50m and 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, plus bronze in the 100m backstroke, while Jacob Hayhurst (10) won bronze in the 100m butterfly and Menna Walmsley (10) clocked PBs in the 50m and 100m backstroke.

Abbie Barnwell, 11, took gold in the 200m IM with a PB and the 100m freestyle, along with silver in the 50m breaststroke, while Anna Fallon (11) swum a PB in the 200m IM and competed in the 50m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Callum Fisher (11) managed PBs in the 50m and 100m freestyle, as did Charlotte Opoku-Gyamfi (11) in the 200m IM, the 50m butterfly and freestyle and 100m breaststroke.

Team Luton are holding their winter development on Sunday at Inspire Sports Village Luton.
