Nathan Greene, 16, was in action alongside Jordan Quinn, 11, and Rhys Crownshaw, 13, who were competing in their first championships.

Greene, an S8/9 swimmer, had an excellent meet, setting three East Region records in the 50m freestyle in 31.98secs, 100m butterfly in 1.18.44mins and the 200m Individual Medley in 3.02.86mins.

He also just missed a personal best time in the 100m backstroke, but accumulated enough British Disability ranking points over the entire championships to come second overall in his age group for the second year running.

Greene will be competing in all of these events at the National Championships in Sheffield in November.

Quinn, who only took up competitive swimming this year, was classified as an S9/10 swimmer the week before and swam in the 50m and 100m freestyle as well as the 50m breaststroke and 100m backstroke.

She set new personal bests in two of her events and narrowly missed another best time in her 50m freestyle by less than one half of a second.

Her fantastic times were also good enough to qualify her for the National Championships in Sheffield in the 50m and 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke.

Crownshaw has only decided to compete this year and, classified as an S6/7 swimmer, he set new best times in all of his events, the 50m and 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle.

He improved his 100m backstroke time by over 3.5secs, having only set his previous best three weeks prior.

Crownshaw will also compete in the same three events in Sheffield.

Development coach, Nicola Jesson, who was also coaching at a disability event for the first time, said: “I was pleased with how well the swimmers did and how they have progressed in a short space of time.

“It was also great to see swimmers with all types of disabilities competing, but also supporting each other throughout the entire event.”
