Team Luton end year with cracking a show

Team Luton swimmers finished the year with a bang at Braintree’s Christmas Cracker gala at the weekend.

Abbie Barnwell, nine, swam in four events in the nine-10-year-old age group and won gold in the 400m individual medley in an outstanding time of 6.13.12mins, setting a new club record and regional qualifying time. She triumphed in the 200m breaststroke, was second in the 200m individual medley and set another new club record in the 400m freestyle in a time of 5.52.15mins.

Meghan Davis, nine, claimed gold in the 200m butterfly in the nine-10 age group in a time of 3.41.55mins, clocking a new club record to seal her place in the 2013 county championships. Emma Kelly, 10, and Alfred Mureithi, 10, also qualified for the championships, Mureithi in the 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke and Emma in the 100m individual medley and 200m freestyle.

Eoin Compton, 10, improved on his county qualifying time in the 50m breaststroke with a two-second personal best of 43.69secs.

In the 11-year-old age group Erin McNally won bronze in the 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly, clocking a county qualifying time of 1.30.49mins.

Nathan Swift dominated the age group by winning all his seven events and setting new person bests in the 100m, 200m and 400m individual medley, 50m and 100m butterfly, 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Swift also broke the nine-year old club record in the 400m individual medley with a time of 5.51.90mins.

Lucy Gee, 12, swam the 100m individual medley in a county time of 1.31.00mins, while Hannah Kelly, 13, won silver in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2.23.47mins and 200m backstroke in 2.36.90mins.

George Rodger, 14, swam impressively to win the 100m and 200m breaststroke events with times of 1.16.51mins and 2.43.23mins and took silver in the 200m individual medley.

Jamie Wright, 14, triumphed in the 200m backstroke in 2.36.50mins, while Matthew Wright, 14, won silvers in the 100m and 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle.

Matthew also qualified for the county championships in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2.37.19mins.

Ryan Compton, 14, was victorious in both the 50m backstroke and 200m individual medley, while Charlotte Kelly, 15, claimed silver in the 50m breaststroke in 38.73secs.

Jamie Fowler, 15, won golds in the 200m freestyle in 2.08.44mins and 200m backstroke in 2.23.43mins.

Sean Hogan, 15, swam an impressive 200m butterfly in 2.26.93mins to win gold and gained silver in the 200m freestyle and 400m individual medley.

Alex Mason, 15, took gold and set a regional time in the 200m individual medley as he clocked 2.24.00mins, while Will Rodger, 15, won gold in the 400m freestyle in 4.37.73mins.
