Team Luton swimmers make a splash

Team Luton’s swimmers were in fine form at last weekend’s Disability Sport England National Short Course Championships in Sheffield.

In a hectic weekend of competitive action, Team Luton’s 23-year-old Paralympian Emma Cattle smashed the S10 classification British record for the 50m freestyle with a time of 29.95secs.

She said: “I really didn’t expect that. Whilst my freestyle’s been going well I’m being treated for a shoulder injury at the moment so it was a real bonus.”

Cattle also retained her National Short Course title in the 100m backstroke and took silver in the 100m freestyle.

Also on top of the victory rostrum was 18-year-old Sam Bradley who took three National titles in the 100m and 200m individual medley and 100m breaststroke in the S7 category.

In a high quality display of swimming Bradley also bagged a silver, bronze and two fifth places in the men’s category.

Also in the medal mix for Team Luton were Nathan Greene, competing in the S9 category with the pick of the 14-year-old’s swims earning him a silver in the 400m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m backstroke.

Claire Warne, 18, made up the Team Luton quartet and she too was amongst the medals with a silver in the 400m freestyle and bronze in the 100m backstroke in the S6 category.
