Third successive win for Luton Rugby

Luton 57 Chingford 26

Luton produced a dominant performance to beat Chingford and record their third London One North League win in a row, writes Stephen Richards.

Rik Hobbs opened the scoring with a penalty after just three minutes and Tesh Edwards scored Luton’s first try a minute later when he ran on to his own kick forward to carry the ball over the line, although Hobbs missed the conversion.

Hobbs kicked another penalty on 11 minutes, while the hosts’ second try came on 10 minutes when Michael Weston scored after receiving a pass from Wayne Kelly, with Hobbs converting to put Luton 18-0 ahead.

Two minutes later it was Steven Ellis’ turn to race through and score and another successful Hobbs conversion increased the lead to 25-0.

Chingford managed to respond with a try on 19 minutes with James Sloths scoring and the deficit was cut to 25-5 as the conversion was missed by Ben Boulton-Smith.

The visitors had appeared to wake up but they were still no match for Luton and it only took another nine minutes for another home try as David Irvine scored after good build-up play from Ellis, Hobbs’ boot making it 32-5.

Oliver Hoad went over for Chingford on 33 minutes but any hopes of a change in momentum was quashed by a great Luton passing move, resulting in Hobbs scoring his team’s fifth try.

Hobbs missed his conversion, but Luton went in 37-12 ahead at the break.

The second period half began the same way as the first, with Luton on the front foot, Andre Paku rounded off another fine passing move to storm down the right and score try number six on 41 minutes.

Tesh Edwards grabbed his second try of the afternoon on 48 minutes as Aiden Kenny marked his return from injury with a great run and pass to set the score up just moments after coming to make it 52-12.
