Top Hatters honoured at awards night

Nicholls, Brkovic, Davies, Davis, Beresford and Newbery get trophies

Hatters' star performers were praised at the club's end of season awards night at the Vauxhall Recreation Club on Sunday.

Skipper Kevin Nicholls won the Fans' Player of the Season and Internet Player of the Season while 16-goal Ahmet Brkovic also picked up two trophies – Goal of the Season for his overhead kick in the 4-0 win over Bradford and Young Members' Player of the Year.

Curtis Davies took Young Player of the Year while Sol Davis won the vote of his teammates by landing Players' Player of the Season.

There were also special awards for club secretary Cherry Newbery and goalkeeper Marlon Beresford.

Ms Newbery was praised for her work behind the scenes during the reign of unpopular former owner John Gurney.

She said: "I was just a cog in the wheel that kept the club turning round, but those days are gone and we're only looking forward now.

"We've got a new board, a new ground coming, a fantastic team, fantastic management and fantastic supporters – now let's go on and take the Championship!"
