The 17-year-old will fly out to Ukraine to compete for GB in the 400m at the prestigious event from July 10-14.

She said: “I’m so excited. I was in Czech Republic when I heard the news. My coach had to call my mum and I’m so happy to be going out there.”

The call-up represents a superb bonus for Bakare, who had intended just to try and get through the campaign injury-free after spending 10 months out when she tore her hamstring.

She is now hopeful of medalling in the Ukraine before turning her attentions to the IAAF World Junior Championships in America next year and even has half an eye on the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

The chances of reaching Rio are something that coach Jane Dixon believes could be a very distinct possibility too.

She added: “She’ll be 20 and she’ll probably be a little bit young to do the flat four, but she’ll have a really good chance of a four-by-four leg on the relay.”
