VIDEO: Luton AC finish second in SAL clash

Four club records were beaten by Luton AC’s athletes as they came second in their home Southern Athletics League match on Saturday.

The team, supported by Luton Rotary Club, were pipped to top spot by Thames Valley Harriers with 209pts.

Luton accumulated 191pts to finish ahead of Peterborough, 156pts, and Barnet & District, 135pts, as they moved away from the relegation zone and into 10th place in Division Two North.

Cherelle Hibbert triumphed with a new club record of 1.66m in the high jump, enough to qualify her for the prestigious English Schools Championships in Birmingham from July 5-6, but she must now wait and hope that the selectors include her.

Hannah Farmer smashed her own 1,500m steeplechase record to win in 5.32.9mins, an agonising four seconds short of the English Schools qualifying time.

Matthew Hill also fell just short of qualification despite throwing a 9m personal best of 51.24m in the javelin.

Victory also went to fellow record-breaker Andy McMulkin in the 2,000m steeplechase, who clocked 6.19.8mins.

The women’s 4x100m relay team of Kayanna Reid, Eavion Richardson, Georgia Downing and Tamyka Spence equalled the club record of 50.7secs, as the women’s team outscored the men on the day.
